Radiation Safety & Physics
Master ALARA principles, x-ray beam physics, lead shielding, and rigorous dosimetry safety protocols.
Precision Patient Positioning
Perform accurate skeletal, chest, abdominal, and trauma radiographic positioning without distortion.
Digital Imaging & PACS
Work with computed radiography (CR), direct digital radiography (DR), and Picture Archiving Systems (PACS).

Respond adeptly to acute emergency patients, pediatric exams, surgical mobile C-arm units, and intensive care.
90-Week Curriculum & Clinical Modules
Structured into rigorous academic semesters and clinical hospital rotationsFundamentals of electromagnetic radiation, x-ray tube construction, generator circuitry, interaction of radiation with matter, biological effects of ionizing radiation, and Canadian Safety Code 35 guidelines.
Upper extremity, shoulder girdle, lower extremity, pelvis, and chest radiography. Practical lab positioning simulations using medical phantoms, collimation accuracy, and image evaluation criteria.
Vertebral column, bony thorax, skull and facial bone anatomy. Contrast media studies (gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and biliary procedures), fluoroscopy mechanics, and sterile field preparation.
Vital signs monitoring, emergency life support (BLS), infection control in diagnostic radiology, safe intravenous cannula management, contrast reaction emergencies, and medical jurisprudence.
Full-time, intensive clinical placement across accredited Canadian regional hospital emergency departments, outpatient diagnostic imaging clinics, and operating rooms under preceptor supervision.
Hospital Clinical Practicum Rotations
With over 800 hours of direct hospital rotations in active imaging departments, students master mobile radiography in emergency bays, operating room C-arms, and outpatient radiography while earning verifiable clinical competencies.
Program Prerequisites
- Academic Prerequisite: Grade 12 graduation with minimum C+ in English 12, Pre-Calculus 11 or Foundations of Math 12, and Physics 11 or Biology 12.
- Mature Student Alternative: 19 years of age with equivalent post-secondary science credits and entrance assessment.
- Health Clearances: Up-to-date immunization record (Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella, TB Skin Test) and CPR-HCP / BLS certification.
- Criminal Record Check: BC Ministry of Public Safety Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
