Since 2005, Windmill Microlending has supported skilled immigrants and refugees by providing financial assistance tailored to their needs. With microloans of up to $15,000, you can:
- Pay for education and training programs lasting two years or less.
- Cover fees for licensing and qualifying exams.
- Cover costs for travel to attend courses or exams unavailable in your area.
- Fund assessments of qualifications and membership in professional associations.
- Purchase books, supplies, and other course materials.
- Receive living allowances during your study period.
Windmill’s support extends to various costs associated with restarting your career in Canada.

To qualify for Windmill Microlending, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be an immigrant with one of these statuses: Permanent Resident, Protected Person, Convention Refugee, Provincial Nominee, or Canadian Citizen.
- Be an internationally trained professional seeking licensing, re-training, or relocation to pursue career goals.
- Reside in Canada and not have an undischarged bankruptcy.
Special Refugee Loan Program
Convention Refugees and Protected Persons can apply for Windmill’s interest-free Refugee Loan Program, available within three years of obtaining refugee status.
- No interest charged: Supported by community donors.
